Amanda Hutchinson Harris
Amanda Hutchinson Harris is an Of-Counsel Associate at The Schymik Law Firm. She began as a law intern in 2008 while finishing law school at Southern Methodist University. She graduated from SMU Law School in 2009. Amanda earned a B.A. degree, with honors, from Indiana University in 2006 with a double major in political science and history. She also studied English Constitutional Law at Oxford.
While at SMU, Amanda participated in a moot court team and was part of the negotiation team. She was a volunteer lawyer in the SMU Civil Clinic where she worked on a variety of legal cases including debt collection, foreclosure and landlord-tenant matters. Amanda also taught law –related education to elementary school students for the Dallas Independent School District.
Amanda has assisted in handling a variety of family law matters: uncontested and contested divorce actions, including a three-day bench trial; general child support review hearings; termination and adoption proceedings; paternity proceedings; and most recently an appeal. In addition, she drafts wills, powers of attorney and other estate planning documents. Recognizing that family law is different from other types of litigation, Amanda works with clients to draft solutions tailored to each specific situation.
Amanda clerked for the Honorable Ken Tapscott, Dallas County Court at Law #4 and at the Dallas City Attorney’s Office in the civil rights division. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas Family Law Section, Dallas Bar Association Family Law Section and the American Bar Association Family Law Section. She is a member of the Dallas Area Phi Mu Alumnae and the DFW Chapter of the Indiana University Association.
Amanda is married to Neil Harris, fellow Indiana University graduate and a law student at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
